Several years ago, I made John a scarf. He, you might know, is a tad particular, so he was very specific about how wide he wanted it, what colors it should be, and how thick. But, most importantly, he said “A scarf should be as big as a man.” So I would knit and knit, and ask him if it was long enough. He would not wrap it around is neck, oh no, he would hold it up next to his body to see if it was “as big as a man” yet. Finally it was.
Then a few years later he wanted another scarf, because the first scarf was too thick for practical packing. Again he described the width, colors, and thickness, and again decreed that “a scarf should be as big as a man.” So I knit and knit, and measured and measured. Finally, he had a new scarf.
And now. I’ve found a nice yarn babushka in an underground market beneath Oktober Square and so am knitting little gifties for our host and translators and other helpers. And I found this cute drop-knit scarf pattern and started knitting away. A few days ago, I unrolled it to see if it was long enough yet, and it wasn’t. Today, I unrolled it and :
It’s for a woman, and not a tall woman at that, so it has been decided that I may proceed with the border. Sheesh. Who knew that I agreed with these dimensions?
And, for the knitting nerds out there, here’s the pattern close up. If you ask, I can even send you a link to make your very own.
Is that John’s altar-ego? Tad Particular? Kindof like a high-brow physics professor …
I am looking forward to my knitting years, but am not quite there yet, so hold that pattern.
